The practice of using self-baking carbon block bottoms and hearths in small and medium blast furnaces shows that self-baking carbon blocks can be gradually baked into a solid, dense, and nearly seamless whole by using the heat of the blast furnace oven and the production process. The damage to the carbon block lining caused by the "ring fracture" caused by the temperature difference stress is eliminated. The "semi-graphitized self-baking carbon block ceramic masonry composite lining technology" developed on this basis has been applied to many large and medium blast furnaces. This kind of composite furnace lining has the advantages of low investment and simple construction.

Application of self-baking carbon block lining in medium and small blast furnace

Since the first 80m³ ferromanganese blast furnace used self-baking carbon block linings, more than 200 50~2580m³ blast furnaces in China have adopted self-baking carbon block linings of different materials and different structures. The self-baking carbon block built in the blast furnace has withstood the production test of different process operations and smelting different iron types. The practice has proved that the self-baking carbon block has the characteristics of high-temperature resistance, high-temperature strength, resistance to slag iron, and corrosion resistance of traditional baked carbon blocks. It can also use the heat of the oven and the production process to gradually roast into a solid, dense, and nearly seamless overall furnace lining.

The analysis results show that many blast furnaces with self-baking carbon block furnaces are shut down. Although the volume and smelting conditions are different, the lining of the self-baking carbon block is slightly corroded after the furnace is shut down. There is no "ring fracture", "abnormal erosion" and other damages that endanger the safety of blast furnace production in the ring masonry of the hearth and hearth like the traditional roasted carbon block lining. Moreover, the self-baking carbon block has been transformed into a heterogeneous furnace lining with a graphitization degree close to that of a graphite electrode and a strength 1 to 3 times higher than that of the graphite electrode. Sampling and inspection from a blast furnace that has been in operation for 6 years revealed that the thermal conductivity of the hearth carbon block is as high as 14~18.5 W/ (m·K). And it has excellent resistance to penetration of molten iron (0.5 MPa impermeability, 0.8 MPa slight penetration). Self-baking carbon block lining technology has become an economically feasible, safe, and reliable long-life lining technology for medium and small blast furnaces.

The use of composite furnace villages to build the hearth and hearth has a significant effect

The production practice of multiple large and medium-sized blast furnaces using composite linings shows that the composite lining significantly improves the working conditions of the hearth of the blast furnace under the condition that other conditions have not been significantly changed. The hearth works evenly and actively, the temperature of the molten iron is increased by 16~18℃, and the coke ratio is reduced by 6~8 kg/t, which is conducive to the strengthening of the blast furnace smelting process. After the reform of the lining of three large-scale blast furnaces in a steel plant, the vanadium-titanium ore protection was canceled, and the comprehensive cost savings have resulted in considerable economic benefits. Because the price of self-baked carbon blocks is much lower than imported materials and domestic semi-graphite calcined carbon blocks. Therefore, the use of semi-graphitized self-baking carbon block ceramic masonry composite furnace lining to build the bottom and hearth of the furnace is the least investment.

At present, the self-baking carbon block and ceramic material brick type of the semi-graphitized self-baking carbon block ceramic masonry composite furnace lining have been standardized and are interchangeable. The shortcomings of using traditional roasting large carbon blocks and designing according to furnace type are solved, and the construction procedure is simplified. The use of self-baking carbon blocks is 40%~50% faster than that of calcined carbon blocks, and the use of standard small bricks to build ceramic masonry is 1~2 times faster than that of French ceramic cups. Moreover, the self-baking carbon block has a simple production process and a short production cycle. It is only equivalent to 30%-40% of the investment in the construction of a roasting carbon block factory of the same scale, and the production cycle is shortened by 60%-70%.
